Hi Dyane, this is not an issue for e-commerce. I’ve written extensively about the Chinese laws and post market testing – let me know if you need links!

Over the past week, I contacted iHerb several times to learn if the iHerb brand Radiant Seoul Beauty products are cruelty-free and/or vegan.

I was informed by one of the iHerb staff that Radiant Seoul Beauty products are vegan, but I find it strange iHerb wouldn’t list that fact anywhere on the products nor their “More about Radiant Seoul” website section.

I asked iHerb if they sold Radiant Seoul Beauty products in mainland China and they confirmed they did. According to crueltyfreeinternational.org:

“Currently, Chinese rules require tests on animals for all imported cosmetics.”

Crueltyfreeinternaional.org states,

“At the beginning of this year, the Chinese State Council passed a draft of the much-anticipated Cosmetics Supervision and Administration Regulation, the primary regulation that governs the production of cosmetics in China. The developments are a signal of potentially positive changes to animal testing requirements. The relevant provision could allow companies selling imported non-special use cosmetics—such as shampoo, body wash, lipstick and lotion—in China to do so without mandatory animal testing….

COVID-19 has inevitably delayed publication of the final regulation as the NMPA, China’s medical products and cosmetics governing body, has understandably been prioritising its efforts to tackle the virus. We do not yet know when the new cosmetics regulation will be published, but we are cautiously optimistic and will be following developments closely so we can update you when we have more news.”

I read several other reputable, current articles about China, imported beauty products, and animal testing. From what I understand, Radiant Seoul Beauty is not cruelty-free *yet*, but I hope that the brand will become truly cruelty-free in the next year.

Thanks for reading!

Dyane

Yes! All of the brands mentioned here are cruelty free (but not all are vegan – if I don’t mention it, pls be sure to check the ingredients).
